MAP Certification Training

MAP Certification Training​
  1. The Department of Public Health (DPH) is the lead agency for the Medication Administration Program (MAP). This program is carried out by the Department of Developmental Services (DDS), the Department of Mental Health (DMH), the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and MassAbility. 
  2. The goal of the Medication Administration Program (MAP) is to ensure there are appropriate policies and procedures for safe medication administration by direct support staff at MAP registered sites.
  3. Direct support staff know the needs and concerns of each person. MAP makes it possible for direct support staff to give medication as a part of the person’s daily routine.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, hold a high school diploma or equivalent, and provide a state-approved ID.

Training Process Questions

MAP Recertification Training​
The training includes a hybrid format consisting of a 9-unit online course, virtual Zoom meetings with trainer check-ins, and hands-on demonstrations using the provided materials.
The training spans a total of 24 hours, typically spread over 3–4 days within a two-week timeframe.
Yes, we offer hybrid programs that include online theoretical coursework and practical skills assessments conducted via Zoom and, as needed, in person.

Practical Skills Questions

MAP Remedial training​
Trainees engage in hands-on practice using mock medications, blister packs, and simulations of real-life scenarios, all under the supervision of a MAP trainer and course proctor.

Certification and Post-Certification Questions

Payment For The State Exam​

The exam involves a written test and a practical demonstration of skills.

MAP certification is valid for two years.

* Effective on the date that test results are posted on the testing vendor's website.

* Valid for 2 years until the last day of the month in which you passed the test. For example, if you passed the test on March 19, 2024, your expiration date is March 31, 2026.

You are responsible for making sure that your MAP Certification remains current. You may no longer administer medication if your MAP Certification expires.

Recertification Testing must be done every 2 years. To become Recertified, you must pass the Recertification Skill Test. The Recertification Skill Test is a medication administration demonstration.

You should recertify before your MAP Certification expires.

If you do not pass the Recertification Skill Test, you cannot give medication or do any medication-related tasks.

* If you fail the Recertification Skill Test 3 times, you must take the MAP Certification Online Training Program again.
* Then you must retake the Certification Test.

If your MAP Certification expires, you cannot give medication or do any medication-related tasks.

* You have one year from the date of expiration to pass the Recertification Skill Test.
* If you do not pass the Recertification Skill Test within that year, you must take the MAP Certification Online Training Program again.
Then you must retake the Certification Test.
